PS1

It was long time since I visit PS1 MoMA in Queens. This area was my first studio study area 1 year before. 1 year already?

Their summer warm-up party is held with annual temporary ‘building’ project is great step for all young architects. This year’s winner was SO-IL. I like their proposal than any other past winner. It’s party, people should be happy, but sometimes other architects want to put their ‘statement’ before ‘fun.’ Their idea was simple and funny. – I think this annual exhibition is few chance to give their professional to public benefit. (Please don’t put your philosophy in front of FUN, why so serious?)

Anyway, it’s not strict structure, so there should be some security guys. (yes kids are playing!)

Grown-ups, too

shakin’ shankin’- The Balls were playing too.

Woops. This ball was alone.

After PS1, I visited 5 pointz, too. – The gallery of dead graffiti, and met a black cat.

She ignored me and pass by me and…

hunt down a flying mouse pigeon! Wild wild New York! That’s why the NY pigeons are flying! (Seoul’s lazy pigeons don’t fly – cuz cats are lazy, too.)

Still, I don’t care of inside of PS1. :)

Wenatchee

Rhino for Mac OS X (codename: Wenatchee) is still in beta, so it has been still unstable, no plug-ins (like MonkeyScript) and no rendering tool. I use school’s license Rhino so far, I did’t use it actually so far. But the term of each build has been so short, and now it’s somehow stable . I mean, for ‘light use.’

Wenatchee (work-in-progress) builds will be available by invitation to a few brave individuals that can stand the pain of helping to keep the early builds running.

Sometimes, I open the program, and draw some meaningless boxes… Copy them, and paste them here and there… and put some light… and test its rendering quality… – Actually I’m not a good 3D operator. Always just “TEST.” It’s like a scribbling for fun. In fact, when I draw that image, it was not only for fun. There was some intention – “TEST” for another design option – and I also wanted to test beta Rhino’s stability. To add, now Wenatchee (beta Rhino Mac OS X’s code name) has its own inner renderer, I also wanted to test that. ((more…))

the other side of the ledger

Yes, we are a little less focused, thanks to the electric stimulus of the screen. Yes, we are reading slightly fewer long-form narratives and arguments than we did 50 years ago, though the Kindle and the iPad may well change that. Those are costs, to be sure. But what of the other side of the ledger? We are reading more text, writing far more often, than we were in the heyday of television.

HSI

I am a kind of a person who can’t live without internet, mostly it’s true. However I never had chance to use highest speed internet connection – at each stage of new technology like cable, ADSL, VDSL… and so on. Wherever I moved in was out of new technology. This time, 395 Riverside, is not an exception. I had 3.1 mbps D/L speed (max) of Verizon HSI service, it was fine. and I found out I can upgrade to 7.1 mbps plan. So did I. – and I also found out I don’t have any luck to have high speed internet after 30 min of customer support call.

awards

One phase is over, still too many things to do.

I finally got 2 masters. Now I’m a Master of Architecture and Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design. It’s not to be proud of so much, rather I feel shame for this. – I want to build. Luckily I was honored with 2 award at the commencement. One was Lucille Smyser Lowenfish Memorial Prizes, which was given to our last studio project. Of course, Brad, Josh and Chirag were awarded together. The other one was personal award which was the 2nd best award, (called Honor Award for Excellence in Design) is for overall evaluation on student’s studio work. I honestly never expected the second one. (However I expected his award, and congratulate Kingsley!)

I was so thrilled not with those awards, rather with the fact that all the students who got the prize were former team member of me. That means I had great chemistry through the year. As always, I don’t want to be best man, I want to be one of the best team. If whoever I’m with is the best people, I can be the best and happiest man.

Of course, I was little bit nervous at the ceremony, Because @Niizaka was there. As a studying husband (consuming husband), I wanted to show at least small prize like Kinne trip scholarship. I was so relieved after my name was called. Actually her lovely pressure was the biggest whip to overcome my natural born laziness. She gave me 5D mark-II, which was my dream camera, as a family award, but her short visit was the biggest award to me.

diagram

We (almost) had no diagram, cause we wanted to let drawing explain itself. (We were tired of drawing diagrams from last 2 semester.) However, it’s time to finish, and at least one diagram to explain whole concept. – Chex-mix urbanism
